The DFROBOT Gravity: Analog Capacitive Soil Moisture Sensor is a corrosion resistant sensor that works well for indoor potted plants. The sensor can be interfaced with an Arduino to provide visible dry/wet data. It has a better performance than resistive sensors, but the reading value can vary based on probe insertion and soil tightness. The sensor is compatible with Arduino and comes with example code. It should be inserted into the soil all the way to the line on the PCB for accurate readings. However, there are reports of inconsistent readings and a short cable that shouldn't be extended. Additionally, some users experienced issues with the sensor not producing any meaningful readings after a week of use.
