- Seeing the approach that foods can have medical effects on the human organism over time in Hippocrates' words, Let food be your medicine, let your medicine be your food it is possible. However, in this time, it is becoming difficult to access healthy food for various reasons such as increasing environmental pollution and harmful pesticides used in agricultural production, and we cannot provide some of the beneficial substances we need just by nutrition. On the other hand, we are looking for food and similar products that will improve physiological functions in our body, keep us fitter and healthier, and reduce the risk of disease, but it should not be forgotten that there is a great deal of information pollution on this subject. Whether we should turn to functional foods, use dietary supplements, or utilize nutraceuticals; We realized that the answers to questions such as how to choose them were not actually known. Correctly defined by society unknown nutraceuticals are products prepared by converting bioactive compounds in foods into different dosage forms such as powder, tablet, capsule and solution, unlike functional foods and food supplements, with proven biological effects and providing protection and treatment support against diseases. This book is incorrect for expressing many products, from isolated ingredients to processed foods, from functional foods to herbal products and food supplements by defining the term nutraceutical used in this way as obtaining the effective substances found in foods in pure form and presenting them in drug form, we have prepared an easy-to-understand guide on these products to all healthcare professionals, especially physicians and pharmacists, and society, to which information based on public health and scientific literature is conveyed in simple language. We wanted to contribute by preparing information based on scientific foundations, including 84 current nutraceuticals, in our book prepared in two volumes in addition to their structures and general properties, they are presented to our readers under the subheadings of their availability in foods, their sources and methods of production, effects and uses, dosage and method of administration, overdose, clinical studies, safety and toxicity, side effects, interactions with plants and drugs, warnings and storage.
