- Fifty Years Unchanged: Per Lütken launched the No. 5 in 1970 after 28 years as Holmegaard's creative director, and the shape has not changed since. Among more than 3,000 designs he created during his 56 years at Holmegaard, this is one that simply stayed, because nothing about it needed revisiting.
- Weight in Hand: The wide, open form sits low on a thick solid base that anchors the glass on the table and feels deliberate in the hand. At 3.5 inches tall and 3.5 inches wide with an 8.1 oz (24cl) capacity, it holds a measure of spirits with just enough room for the drink to open, and the flared rim keeps the pour clean.
- Blown One at a Time: Every No. 5 glass is mouth-blown individually, the glassblower controlling the breath and form by hand, and each piece carries the Holmegaard swan mark that identifies mouth-blown glass. Dishwasher safe on a low temperature cycle, which preserves the clarity of mouth-blown glass far longer than a hot wash would.
- Pour and Pause: The low, wide shape works as well for a short cocktail, a measure of Scotch, or an aperitivo as it does for a long drink. The glass carries enough visual weight to feel like a considered object on the table rather than just another tumbler.
